Sixteen (16) secondary students from Seri Mulia Sarjana School actively participated the annual International School Brunei Borneo Global Issues Conference (ISB BGIC) held on 8th-11th March 2019 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Kementerian Hal Ehwal Luar Negeri, Stadium Rd, Bandar Seri Begawan and was graced by Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Salleh Ab Rahaman, D.K.

The event aimed at raising awareness to serious world issues, developing public speaking skills and growing responsible global citizens. This is a Model United Nations (MUN) simulation that focuses on UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

By taking part in this conference, the students are showing future employers and universities that they have an understanding of global concerns and current affairs as well as debating and presentation skills in a formal environment. These are indeed highly admirable skills. Moreover, the theme for this year’s BGIC was ‘CLIMATE ACTION’ which focused on four different aspects such as  environmental, political, human rights and economic-social. Our very own Janelle Joyce Ampongan Perez of Year 11C from Political Forum 2 won “The Most Diplomatic Delegate”. The keynote speakers were Hannah Testa (International Speaker and Founder of Hannah4Change) and Rita Kimani (Co-founder of FarmDrive, ONE Young World Ambassador United Sustainable Development). It was indeed a noteworthy event for our students as supervised by T. Sandhya Chandran and T. Dexter Junsay.
