Believing that skills and knowledge learned in the classroom have real life value, twenty two Home Economics CCA students from Year 2 and Year 5 and five assisting teachers went out of their way, damped their fingers and explored the fun of the Sushi and Maki Making Activity held on Friday, 26th July 2019 at Sushi Tei, Freshco Building, Batu Satu, Brunei Darussalam.
The said unique interactive teaching method unfolded integrated learning opportunities as ‘Sarjanians’ were able to hone their fine-motor skills as they rolled, sprinkled and cut the ingredients. Communication skill was somehow refined when they interacted with the chef and their peers and when they reasoned out during the activity. The measuring process in Sushi making likewise enhanced their Mathematical and Reading skills respectively. Over and above, the students demonstrated teamwork, enjoyed and engaged themselves in preparing their own food.
Those valuable skills they picked up from the one hour and a half session on Sushi making are the very skills that will give them the needed confidence to fuel every endeavour they may have in school and outside the school.
To the Home Economic Class, congratulations for taking the initiative to find a more meaningful way of learning. The ‘Sarjana’ family is proud of you!
