With a high emphasis on the importance of raising awareness of the contribution of human activities to waste pollution, which threatens both marine life and human beings, Brunei Gas Carriers Sdn Bhd (BGC) conducted a beach cleaning campaign at Jerudong Beach on 17th September 2022, and was participated by selected students and teachers from different educational institutions in the country. Seri Mulia Sarjana School (SMSS) was represented by three Supreme Student Council (SSC) officers and supervising teachers. A total of 1.2 tonnes of rubbish was collected during Cleanup Day BGC’s message through the initiative is that environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility, and they are committed to playing their part in sustaining the environment for the coming generations, while encouraging the public to ‘go green’ and stop plastic use, as a massive volume of plastic garbage contributes to the overall pollution in oceans and seas, posing a growing threat to marine life. The International Coastal Cleanup is the world’s largest single-day volunteering effort to clean up beaches, lakes and rivers, and our school did not miss this wonderful opportunity of contributing to saving the environment.
