It is a given fact that today, our students live in a fast-paced digital world where technology infuses itself into their lives and rewires their brains. Undoubtedly, technology affects how learning happens and creates new kinds of students with different expectations for learning. Thus, one of the many roles of educators nowadays is to be able to teach students how to “connect and protect” in the digital age with projects or activities that will require them in collaborating with both real and virtual partners.
The implementation of SMSS’ “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) initiative aims to help the students develop greater independence, increase engagement and develop skills required to thrive in the 21st century. A BYOD refresher course was conducted on 1st February to secondary teachers which gave a fresh start in the implementation of our initiative for the school year 2019. The said activity was spearheaded by the school’s Educational Technologist, Teacher Yuri Bongalos. He generously shared valuable insights to 28 teachers about the different applications, software and procedures which can be conducted in BYOD classes for a more enjoyable, educational and fulfilling experience. The teachers indeed had a productive and significant session which will help in implementing 21st century teaching in the classroom.
